Why is my yard turning Brown?

Does seem like every July and August you yard no longer has that beautiful thick green color that it had just a short time ago? Many think I just need more fertilizer, more water. This is actually a common mistake many people make. Too much fertilizer can actually be harmful to the lawn. Yes, fertilizer is water activated this is true!

Many people do not realize that constant watering is like filling up the bathtub until the water is running over just to take a bath. While watering the lawn is important, it is also important to know that watering the lawn infrequently and heavy is the best way to keep that lawn looking nice and thick, but most importantly GREEN!

Many other factors can come in to play as well such as pest and thatch. They are tons of pest and rodents that destroy lawns all year long. So, pest can be healthy for the lawn. They also prey on those harmful to the lawn. Rodents are migrating and looking for new homes. As developments continue to grow and expand, they are being pushed into new habitats.

Thatch can build up as the year goes on. Thatch is layers of dead grass that sits on top not allowing water, fertilizer, or other important nutrients to reach the soil. It is important to have your yard dethatched as the season goes on. Personally I recommend at least 3 times a year. Spring, Mid-Summer, and in the fall.
